At the end of March, the U.S.-based magazine Time released its list of the 100 best destinations in the world for 2025, with the Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien metro line, the first of its kind in HCMC, being named as Vietnam’s representative.
Scheduled to open in December 2024, the nearly 20 km long metro line features 2.6 km of underground tracks, three underground stations, and 11 elevated stops, with a total investment of nearly 44 trillion VND. The metro line consists of 17 trains, each with a capacity of 930 passengers. The one-way ticket price for cash payment ranges from 7,000 to 20,000 VND, depending on the distance. For cashless transactions, the one-way ticket will cost between 6,000 and 19,000 VND.
According to the American magazine, the metro line will allow tourists to avoid the loud honking of cars on the road and help them sidestep traffic jams during peak hours when visiting tourist attractions such as the Opera House, Nguyen Hue Walking Street, or Bui Vien Street.
The list of the 100 best destinations includes two main categories: accommodations and attractions. Therefore, in addition to destinations, the list also honors hotels, cruise ships, museums, and parks. Experts selected the list based on criteria such as innovation, impact, and success of the destination.
Other destinations in Asia on the list include the Zebun Nessa Mosque in Bangladesh, the Nintendo Museum in Uji, Japan, the Beijing Library in China, the Eagle Hunter Cultural Center in Mongolia, and the Wangduechhoeling Palace Museum in Bhutan.
