The T3 terminal project, with a total investment of over 10 trillion VND and an area of more than 100,000 square meters, is accelerating its construction to connect to the main thoroughfare across Tan Son Nhat Airport.
On August 13, the T3 Terminal Project Management Board reported that the contractor had completed the rough construction phase and is hastening the progress as per the Prime Minister’s request to bring it into operation by April 30, 2025.
Inside the T3 terminal, large architectural blocks are being worked on around the clock by over 2,500 workers and engineers, along with hundreds of machinery and equipment operating in three shifts to maintain the schedule.
Despite the unpredictable weather, the T3 construction site remains lively with the sounds of machinery and equipment, as workers and engineers toil from morning to night.
Since the end of May 2024, the contractor has accelerated the assembly of steel structures, glass walls, and roofing using a rolling construction method.
Mr. Le Khac Hong, Head of the T3 Terminal Project Management Board, mentioned that according to the initial schedule, the project would be operational by the end of June 2025. However, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Ho Chi Minh City Secretary Nguyen Van Nen have requested that the investor expedite the schedule to complete the project two months earlier, in time for the 50th anniversary of the reunification of the South and North Vietnam.
The work process of the workers at the T3 terminal is strictly controlled to ensure compliance with technical requirements.
The T3 terminal construction project at Tan Son Nhat International Airport consists of four main components: a passenger terminal, a multi-story parking garage combined with non-aeronautical services, an elevated road in front of the terminal, and aircraft parking areas, with a total investment of over 10 trillion VND.
The project broke ground on August 31, 2023, and as of now, the rough concrete work on the passenger terminal has reached 100%; the architectural shell construction is at 85%; the multi-story parking facility and non-aeronautical services are at 100% in rough concrete and 75% in architectural shell construction.
The electromechanical works have achieved 100% in rough concrete, with all electromechanical assembly work completed, and equipment installation is currently underway. The aircraft parking area and elevated road are expected to be completed by the end of February 2025.
On the afternoon of August 10, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that since the construction timeline is limited, relevant units must implement strong direction, closely supervise, and promptly address any arising issues to ensure the construction schedule and quality of the project.
When the T3 terminal becomes operational, the Prime Minister stressed the need for seamless integration and effective organization of traffic within the airport and the urban road system to avoid congestion. To facilitate users and reduce operational manpower, there should be a strong push for digital transformation, investing in smart management and monitoring systems that are automated.
Once completed, the T3 terminal will serve as a domestic passenger terminal with a capacity of 20 million passengers per year, accommodating 7,000 passengers during peak hours, and will be capable of handling all types of aircraft code C and code E, fundamentally addressing congestion issues at Tan Son Nhat International Airport.
