(Dan Tri) – The Prime Minister directed ministries and sectors to promptly complete investment procedures and start construction of Long Thanh Airport’s second runway in January 2025.
On December 3, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh inspected the construction progress of the Long Thanh International Airport project and the road system connecting Long Thanh Airport with regional traffic.

This is the 5th time Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has inspected the Long Thanh Airport project site.
Visiting the Long Thanh International Airport Passenger Terminal construction site, the Prime Minister presented gifts and encouraged officers, engineers, and workers working there. The Prime Minister requested contractors to actively work in 3 shifts, overcome the sun, overcome the rain, not lose to the storm, eat quickly, sleep urgently, only work, do not talk back. Along with that, contractors need to ensure the quality of the project, technical and aesthetic requirements, environmental sanitation, labor safety…
The Prime Minister directed that it is necessary to quickly deploy the construction of the second runway, and at the same time immediately prepare for investment in the construction of phase 2 of the Long Thanh International Airport project. Ministries and branches need to complete the procedures early in 2024, determined to start construction of the second runway of Long Thanh airport in early 2025.
The Prime Minister also requested the People’s Committee of Dong Nai province to plan and build Long Thanh airport city on the area of Long Thanh and Nhon Trach districts, with the goal of becoming a smart, modern, internationally connected city, with full functions of urban area, hotel, resort, event and logistics.
Regarding the expansion of the Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh expressway and the roads connecting to Long Thanh airport, the Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Transport to review and the State Capital Management Committee at enterprises to complete the procedures for the Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC) to implement early.
The Prime Minister also assigned the Ministry of Transport to review and study the transportation options connecting the new airport, such as: metro, subway, high-speed railway connecting Long Thanh, Bien Hoa, Tan Son Nhat airports. On this occasion, the Prime Minister directed the launch of a 400-day and night peak competition at the construction site, bringing the project to the finish line on December 31, 2025.
