Dong Nai – The terminal, runway, and control tower are starting to take shape in the 1,000-hectare Long Thanh airport construction site.
After a year of groundbreaking, the terminal package with a total investment of 35 trillion VND, considered the “heart of Long Thanh airport,” has taken form. Viewed from above, the shape of a lotus petal has clearly emerged next to the runway, which is being constructed simultaneously.
Currently, the Vietur consortium has mobilized 8,000 engineers and workers to work day and night to ensure the progress set by the investor. During the upcoming four-day holiday, the Long Thanh airport construction site will continue to maintain its work pace.
Most of the packages in the passenger terminal have been topped out, with the reinforced concrete columns and beams on the first, second, and third floors largely completed, and work is underway on the final reinforced concrete elements on the fourth floor.
A week ago, the construction unit began assembling the steel framework to install the roof on the two wings of the terminal. According to the general contractor consortium, the steel components are imported from overseas and undergo quality inspection before being brought to the site.
“Having worked on construction projects for many years, being involved in the Long Thanh airport is an honor, so everyone is trying their best to adhere to the technical specifications and design to ensure the required quality,” said Mr. Nam, a worker.
Cranes are raising steel pieces to assemble the roof of the Long Thanh airport terminal. To ensure the quality of the steel beams, cranes with a capacity of 600-800 tons have been brought to the site.
According to ACV, the terminal is expected to complete all construction in 2025, with equipment installation and trial operation beginning in early 2026, aiming to complete all items by August 2026.

Recently, the Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV) proposed the construction of the second runway and taxiway as part of phase 2 of the Long Thanh Airport project, with a total investment of over 3.455 trillion VND, expected to be completed by 2027. This runway will run parallel to the existing runway and is within the area of phase 1 that has been cleared.
A portion of the basic runway for takeoff and landing has been completed.
According to the investor, the runway at Long Thanh Airport is 4 kilometers long and 45 meters wide. In addition to the runway, this package includes taxiways, connecting taxiways, rapid exit taxiways, aircraft parking areas, and parking areas for ground service vehicles, amounting to 7.2 trillion VND.
Workers were pouring concrete to build the taxiway and parking area on August 29.
It is expected that the runway will be completed and technically operational before April 30, 2025. The air traffic control tower and auxiliary works have a total investment of 3.5 trillion VND. The tower is designed in the shape of a lotus bud, harmoniously colored and architecturally in sync with the passenger terminal. The control tower is 123 meters tall with a radar mounted on top, a construction area of about 80 m², and a body diameter of 10 meters.
As of now, the tower has been constructed to over 100 meters and is expected to be completed by June 2025. Besides the main packages within the airport, the Deo Ca consortium is making efforts to construct two routes T1 and T2 connecting Long Thanh Airport to National Route 51 and the Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh – Dau Giay Expressway with an investment of 2.63 trillion VND. According to the contractor consortium, the project is scheduled to be completed by the end of next year as per the contract timeline. However, the units are striving to finish the project by September 2, 2025, nearly four months ahead of schedule.

The Long Thanh International Airport project, covering an area of 5,000 hectares, has a projected total investment of about 336.63 trillion VND. In the first phase, the airport will construct one runway, a passenger terminal, along with auxiliary items, with a capacity of 25 million passengers per year, expected to be completed in 2026.
